

Robert W. Ferguson passed away peacefully under hospice care with family by his side on September 6, 2015. Born near Lander, Wyoming on May 23, 1926 to William Ferguson and Mary Campbell, the youngest of 8 children, Bob moved to Washington as a teen, joining the Navy at age 17. He served in the Pacific through the end of WW II, earning the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart. Upon re-enlisting in the army and being stationed at Fort Bragg, NC, he met his life-long bride to be, Hazele Dethmers. He moved to Bremerton, WA in 1952, where he lived for the next 60+ years, working at Keyport Naval Torpedo Station and the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Throughout his life he was active in the military reserves, first in the National Guard and then in the Special Forces, achieving the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4, with jump master and master rigger ratings prior to retirement from the civil service and the military. In retirement, he devoted much of his time to his family, to various veteran's organizations, and to his hobby of fishing, building bamboo fly fishing rods into his 80’s.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Hazele (2013). He is survived by his children; Bob Ferguson (Terri), Gary Ferguson (Rachel), Tim Ferguson (Joan) and Judy Henry (Rob); his grand children: Andrea (Kevan) Barry, Erin (Tristan) Anderson, Ryan (Marina) Ferguson, Tim (Billie-Jean) Ferguson, Chelsea Dana, Matt Ferguson, Christie (Bruce) Edwards, and Luke (Jodi) Henry; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial and interment ceremony with military honors will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA on November 13, 2015 at 12:30 PM.
