

Robert (Bob) Daryl Sechrest, 81, passed away February 21,2018. He was born November 30, 1936, to James and Catherine (Williams) Sechrest in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was a resident of Bremerton for the past 43 years. He lived wherever the U.S. Navy took him (Oak Harbor, Washington; Kingsville and Corpus Christi, Texas; Albany, Georgia; Sanford and Jacksonville, Florida, Reykjavík, Iceland, and other cities in North Carolina and Texas). Bob was an Aviation Electrician during his 21 years of active duty in the U.S. Navy and retired as a Chief Petty Officer (E7). He was always attached to flight squadrons. His ships included the USS Enterprise (CVN 65), USS Saratoga (CV 60), USS Ranger (CV 61), and USS Forrestal (CV 59). Bob retired out of VA-196 at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington. After retiring from the U.S. Navy in 1975, Bob worked at Inactive Ships at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton. From there he started working at NSB Bangor Washington in the communications and electronics field until he retired. Bob retired from civil service in 1994, receiving a 40-year government service award. Electricity always sparked his interest! He was a life-long learner receiving an AA degree in computer assisted design from Olympic College in 2005.
Bob married his first wife, Yvonne (Cabron) Sechrest on April 7, 1956, at Saint John Nepomucene Parish in Robstown, Texas. She passed away in 1988 at age 54. Together they had five children, Charlotte (Ron) Jensen, Michael (Debra) Sechrest, Angela (Robert Gordon, then Dale Morrissey) Gordon, Rachel (Jeff) Taylor, and Shalene Sweet.
After 32 years of marriage and Yvonne’s passing, Bob married Patricia (Housey Soderberg) Sechrest in 1990 at Holy Trinity Parish, Bremerton, Washington. He doubled the size of his family to include James (Robin) Soderberg, John (Loma) Soderberg, Jeff Soderberg, Joseph Soderberg, and Janet Soderberg. Bob and Pat had been married 28 years at the time of his passing.
Bob loved camping and fishing, traveling the U.S, John Wayne, and anything Huskies. His greatest joy was getting everyone together for the family campouts.
Bob is survived by his wife, Patricia, his two sisters, Terry Heron and Patti Warrick, his 10 children and many grandchildren, including Nicole, Jenny, Jessica, Johnny, Caroline, Roland and Cole, Mandy and Sammy, Valerie and Justin, Robert and Ronnie, Nicholas and Christopher, Sashka and Annaliese, Van and Elsa, and his great grandchildren, Kailee, Noah and Sienna, Hailey, Hannah, and Hunter, Jaycub and Freya, Rigby, Presley, Timmy, and Christopher. We think that’s all.
Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Yvonne, his father and stepmother, James and Gertrude Sechrest, his mother, Catherine Williams, his brother, James Sechrest Jr. (Butch), son-in-law Robert Gordon, and grandsons, Richard and Jeremey Gordon.
Funeral arrangement are through Miller Woodlawn. Services are scheduled for Friday, March 2, 2018, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church beginning with recitation of the Rosary at 10:30 am., followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Miller Woodlawn Cemetery with military honors.
