It is with both a grieving heart and great hope that we announce Shanna June McVicker, 70, passed peacefully into her heavenly rest in the presence of Jesus, on January 25, 2025, exactly 400 days after her husband, David’s graduation to glory.
Shanna was born on January 9th, 1955, to Earl & June Hill, in Richland, Washington, where she grew up and married her high school sweetheart, David McVicker, on June 22, 1974. Their 50-year marriage was marked by loving and encouraging each other, and learning and growing together.
Thirteen months after getting married, David and Shanna welcomed their first child, Amanda, who was then followed by Daniel, Kela, Gabriel and Nathan. It was their greatest joy to tell the stories of how God gave them these five gifts.
Shanna was a Kindergarten teacher for years, and later subbed in many classrooms. But her favorite work was loving and raising her kids. She loved each of them dearly. Shanna always had more room in her heart, though, for her ever-expanding family. She was thrilled when people came into the McVicker clan through marriage or birth, and was a big fan of weddings and newborn babies.
Shanna was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2009. She faced many challenges, but met each of them with grace and without complaint. She and David relied on the Lord for strength. It was through reading God’s Word together every morning that gave them the encouragement they needed for this leg of life’s journey.
When David died, Shanna went to live at Later Years. But she was never alone. Shanna received many visitors each and every day, all the way to the very finish line of her life. She truly had an army of family and friends who cared for her, a testimony to a life that was marked by deep friendships and love.
Shanna’s greatest joy was her family, all of whom will miss her dearly: her children: Amanda (Joshua), Daniel (Honey), Kela (David), Gabriel and Nathan; her grandchildren: Ariana, Karis, Glory, Josiah, Austin, Trey, Noah, Henri, Mila, and Kalia; her great grandchildren: Eleanor, Charlotte, Ezra; her brothers: Dick, who preceded her in death (Dorothy) and John (Carolyn); and many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Her family and friends rejoice that Shanna is now present with her Savior, Jesus, and reunited with David. With the Apostle Paul, Shanna can also declare: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Tim 4:7)
Shanna was a faithful member of Peninsula Bible Fellowship for nearly four decades. She increasingly looked forward to seeing the face of her Savior, Jesus, the One whose victory over death opens the way to Heaven for all those who trust in Him. A 'Celebration of Life' service for Shanna will be held at Peninsula Bible Fellowship on March 22 at 11am.
