Sharlene Marie Zwieg of Belfair passed away November 16, 2018 at her home. Born March 22, 1941 in Brainerd, Minnesota. She was the youngest of seven children born to Wesley and Iva Strassburg. At the age of two, her family moved to the Bremerton area where she graduated in 1959 from East High. She married Walter Zwieg in 1964. During his military career, the family lived in Japan, Whidbey Island and Hawaii, eventually retiring to the Silverdale area in 1972. In 1985, they moved to Belfair. During the 70’s Sharlene worked at Keyport Torpedo Station and the family restaurant at the Bremerton Elks Club on Pine Road as a bookkeeper. In the late 80’s she was a volunteer for Hospice. Throughout the 90’s she was a foster parent to several dozen special need babies and children. Sharlene had many different interests throughout her life. She learned to sew at an early age and made clothes for her children when they were young. She enjoyed cross-stitching and other crafts. She had a passion for reading and collecting books, accumulating over 3000 for her personal home library. She could shop for hours at second hand stores gathering collectables. Sharlene loved to travel around the US and spent many winters in Arizona with her husband, Walt. Her greatest love and pastime was caring for all of her plants and growing her garden every year, canning her own fruits and vegetables. She was very family oriented and passed this on the her children. Sharlene is survived by her husband Walt, her two sons, Kevin and Walt Jr, both of Belfair, her two daughters Marsha of Belfair and Vicki of Tacoma, five grandchildren, Breanna, Jeremy, Jessica, Travis, and Corey, three great-grandchildren, a sister, June Laskoski of Port Orchard, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed. We love you mom. Remembrances can be made to Hospice of Washington or by planting a tree in Sharlene’s name.
