She was born July 31, 1940, in Seattle, WA, to Ina (Lahti) Glaser. She graduated from West Bremerton High School in 1959 and from Olympic College in 1961.
She married Douglas J. Zink on February 20, 1960, in Bremerton.
Mother and wife were more than full-time avocations for De. When she took on a role or task she did so in support of each of her children, so it was over thirty years of moving through volunteer leadership positions in multiple organizations. Later she did the same for her grandchildren.
De was a stay-at-home mother and full time homemaker until Douglas experienced a debilitating, massive stroke in November 1979. It was at that time that De took on multiple jobs to support her family. Those positions were often in retail or production including CenterStage, Pacific Fabrics, ASPRO, and Barnes & Noble.
De was a longtime active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Ladies of Elks, Order of the Eastern Star, International Order of Rainbow for Girls and Bremerton Community Theatre. De was generous in supporting efforts that helped those in need both through the organizations in which she was a member and her personal efforts. Other organizations and volunteer efforts included Women’s Bowling Association, March of Dimes and Business & Professional Women’s Club (with Esther). De was also an AVON representative for several decades.
Though caregiver was never an aspiration for De, she was called to be a caregiver for many. She provided in-home care for her aging grandparents and mother, cared for her disabled husband for 24 years, supported Ta’Mara through her battle with Leukemia, and cared for friends Nancy and Gene McKelvy as their chronic diseases stole their ability to care for themselves. More joyfully, she was to provide assistance in caring for grandsons Donovan and Xander.
Throughout her lifetime, De enjoyed gardening and crafts.
De is remembered with love by those surviving including daughter Ta’Mara (Todd) Bale of the family home, son Durand Zink of Bremerton (WA), and daughter Yazmin (Jeff) Wood of Arkansas City (KS); three grandchildren Donovan Zink, Xander Bale and Bella Wood; and one great-grandchild Dakine Jedd Zink; and beloved dog, Midnight.
She was preceded in death by her mother, her husband, granddaughter Lacey Zink and beloved family of choice, friends Nancy and Gene McKelvy.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Z.D. Zink Memorial Fund to assist with defraying burial expenses care of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Services. The family will provide a memorial donation to Bremerton Community Theatre.
