

On March 15, 2021, Alice Samuels Jones, died peacefully in her home of almost 60 years, 5 days before her 90th birthday. She was born in Fayetteville, NC to Maggie and Jerry Samuels. She lived most of her childhood in Hampton, VA and most of her adult years in Washington, D.C. Alice is predeceased by her husband of fifty years, Thomas R. Jones, Jr. and brothers, Ernest, Jerry, and Otis.
She is survived by daughter, Michelle (Dana) and son, Thomas III (Lauren), grandchildren: Mikala, Allison, Thomas IV, lone surviving brother, Daryll Samuels, Sr., and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Alice was a proud graduate of Phoenix High School (Hampton, VA), Hampton Institute (B.A.), and Boston University (M.Ed.). She was a retired DC public school teacher, primarily a reading specialist, devoting more than 40 years to DC's youth. Alice was a devoted member of Zeta Phi Beta sorority, Silver Tongues, Plymouth UCC, and a docent at the Smithsonian. She was also among the ELITE emeritus class at Hampton University and the Golden Terriers of Boston University. She loved to swim, travel, read and garden.
Because of COVID restrictions, we will have a memorial service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hampton University in her name.
Guest book can be completed through the Fort Lincoln Funeral Home.
