Allan Earl Lucas, Sr. was born in Washington, D. C. on September 24, 1932, to the late Levin James Lucas, Sr. and Elizabeth Lynch Lucas. He was educated in the Washington, D. C. public school system. In September of 1950, he enlisted in the United States Airforce and served until he was honorably discharged in September of 1954. Afterward, he was employed for a brief period at Soldier Home in Washington, D.C.
He met and later married the late Gladys Mae Whitted in March of 1955. To their union five children were born: Allan E. Lucas, Jr., Milan H. Lucas, Sr., Cedric L. Lucas, Sr., Joseph G. Lucas, Sr. and Gwynetta E. Lucas Hailey. Although their marriage ended in divorce in 1972, they both loved their children. Allan was remarried in 1974 to the late Barbara Houston and became stepfather to four children: Denise Waters, Johnny Houston, Darnell Houston, and Bobby Houston.
Allan obtained full-time employment as a clerk for the United States Postal Service in 1956 and he also worked part-time as a cab driver for the Associated and Impala Cab Companies until 1963 when he was hired by the United States Department of Agriculture. Starting in the mailroom and because of his strong work ethic and perseverance, he eventually worked his way up to the position of Director of Administrative Management and later Branch Chief in the Food and Nutrition Division. Allan retired as a GS-14 in 1986.
Not one to rest on his laurels, Allan went into business for himself when he established the Lucas Limousine Service in 1986. He provided service to a number of Fortune 500 company executives, world leaders, celebrities, and Howard University.
Allan departed this life, after a brief illness, April 4, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wives, sons Milan and Cedric, and daughter Gwynetta. He leaves to mourn his passing one son, Joseph G. Lucas, Sr. (Lois) of Rolesville, NC, 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, his close friend and care provider Ms. Francine White, and a host of other family members, particularly his nephew John Lucas, and his stepson Johnny Houston (Blanca) who were very close to him and a number of long-time friends.
