Allen Demar Johnson

Allen Demar Johnson, age 91, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2019 at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. Allen Johnson was born to the late Raymond and Tessie Johnson on June 24, 1928 in Anderson County, Greenville, South Carolina.

Allen married his childhood sweetheart of 43 years the late Willie Blanche Johnson, of 43 years. With six kids and five under the age of ten years, Allen said he went to sign up for the draft, but the Army Recruiter said, he would best serve his country staying home taking care of possible future soldiers! And they were! Five of his children are veteran; having served totaling 55 years of Army, Air Force and Marines.

Allen Johnson was educated in the school system in Greenville, SC, before relocating to Washington, DC with his family. He retired from Editors Press, Hyattsville, MD, after serving over 34 years of faithful service.

Allen Johnson married Adelaida Verdon, in 2011, where they traveled throughout Europe. Allen said, he never thought this was possible in his late seventies and eighties, since he was busy working and raising a family in his early years. The joy he and Aida shared was immeasurable as they experienced different cultures, food, currencies and languages. It was doing a fall on a cruise in the Bahamas, that his health started to fail.

Allen Johnson was known for his gentleness and infectious smile and his soft words of wisdom. In his presence, he made you feel very special. He would long be remembered by his family and friends for his kindness. He will be truly missed!

Allen Johnson leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, four children, Mary E. Gill, Frederick, MD, Raymond L. Johnson, Helan M. TenEyck (Frank), Alvin D. Johnson, all of Martinsburg, WV; 10 grandchildren, 14 great- grandchildren, three great-great grand children; one sister, Mary Kinard, Greenville, SC, several brothers and sisters in-laws and host of other relatives and friends.
