Alonzo Nicholson

Alonzo Nicholson quietly and peacefully closed his eyes to rest on Wednesday, January 8, 2020. Alonzo Nicholson was born October 30, 1933 in Mount Croghan, South Carolina to his parents Ernest and Pauline Nicholson who preceded him in death.

Alonzo moved to Washington, DC where he enlisted in the D.C. National Guard to serve his country for eight years until he was honorably discharged. Alonzo worked at the Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Services Division. He spent 33 years in the Federal Government working at the Food and Drug Administration until he retired.

He also volunteered with the Friendship House Association, Southeast Branch delivering food to seniors in the community from 1989 to 2008. Alonzo was a jack of all trades and always had a story or a joke to tell. He made sure that everyone he touched had a smile on their heart.

Alonzo was preceded in death by his wife: Audrey Nicholson. His two brothers: Ernest Nicholson Jr. and Hazel Nicholson. Five sisters Willie Mae Crawford, Betty Jean Nicholson, Nellie Mae Nicholson, Francis Nicholson and Thelma Nicholson, and one grandson Antonio Nicholson.

He will be missed tremendously by his only surviving brother, Bobby Gene Nicholson; and last Uncle to his children. He was a devoted father to his children who cherish and hold fond memories of him: his daughters Cathy Scott; Deborah Nicholson, Melody Crawford; his sons Rodney Nicholson, Angelo Nicholson, Patrick Nicholson, Kory Nicholson and Kevin Waters; two daughter in-laws: Princess Nicholson and Naomi Nicholson; son-in-laws: Keith Scott; James Crawford (deceased); grandchildren Shakeithia Nicholson; Shantel Crawford, Trenisa Norris, Keith Nicholson; Ronald Nicholson, Dominic Nicholson, Angelo Nicholson Jr., great grandchildren Phoenix Norris, Ronald Nicholson Jr., Maliyah and Miyah Nicholson, Trestan and Trenell Norris, Kory Nicholson and Kaylin Nicholson. Uncle Nick had a host of nieces and nephews.
