Anthony D. Givens, born November 23, 1966, in Washington, D.C., passed away leaving behind a legacy of strength, resilience, and unforgettable personality. He was the youngest of three children born to the late Eva M. Givens, a secretary with the U.S. Department of Health, and Eugene P. Givens Sr., a camera engineer with NBC.
Anthony was educated in the District of Columbia public school system, attending Bertie Backus Preschool, Bunker Hill Elementary, Taft Junior High, and Backus Junior High, as well as Hargrove Military Academy. Through perseverance and determination, he earned his GED in 1982. He was also recognized for his contributions to tutorial programs that supported student success.
Known for his direct and unfiltered nature, Anthony was a man who spoke his mind, yet beneath his strong exterior was a deep love for his family—especially his children. In 1989, he met Angela, and together they shared a meaningful relationship that brought forth two daughters, Britteny and Tiffeny.
Anthony dedicated 25 years of service to the Smithsonian National Gallery of Art, where he began as a carpenter and later became an event coordinator, contributing to exhibits and special events across both wings of the museum.
He enjoyed video games, movies, and was a devoted Washington Commanders fan, always holding strong to his team loyalties. A thrill-seeker at heart, he especially loved visits to amusement parks like Kings Dominion. Anthony lived throughout various parts of Maryland and faced health challenges over the years with the steady support of his beloved sister.
He is survived by his daughters, Britteny R. Givens and Tiffeny S. Givens-Wilson (Erin); his sister, Deborah R. Bowser; his brother, Eugene P. Givens Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Anthony will be remembered for his bold spirit, his authenticity, and the lasting impression he left on everyone who knew him.
