Barbara Delores Pegram Dunnigan

BARBARA “DELORES” PEGRAM DUNNIGAN peacefully entered eternal rest on July 13, 2026. Born in Washington, DC, on August 25, 1933, she was the beloved sixth child of the late Mack D. and Susie K. Pegram. Lovingly called Delores by family and friends, she was a proud graduate of Dunbar High School, later continuing her education at Howard University and earning her Paralegal

Certification from the University of Maryland. A dedicated professional, Barbara retired as an industry analyst from the Department of Transportation in 1995 following a distinguished 41-year career in federal service. Her passion for work continued well into retirement; she spent a decade as a leasing specialist with Kay Management and shared her talents for three years with MNCPPC, where she beautifully coordinated events at various

historical sites.

At an early age, Delores accepted Christ at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. On May 10, 1972, she united with Shiloh Baptist Church of Washington, DC, where she faithfully served and lived out her Christian life. Over her many years of devoted membership, she was an active member of Alpha-Naomi Circle, the General Usher

Board (Unit 2), and served as the Usher Leader for the children’s Unit 6. Delores regularly attended church school and poured her heart into the Study, Prayer, and Action Missionary Group. Her proudest moment of spiritual leadership came when she was appointed as a Deaconess.

Beyond her church home, Delores was heavily involved in her community and civic life. She was active in the International Toastmistress Club, now known as International Training and Communication, and dedicated more than 50 years of service to the Board of Directors for the Adelphi Terrace Condominium Association. Delores was also an avid sports enthusiast who took great joy in holding season tickets for both the Washington

Commanders and the Washington Wizards. In her spare time, she loved watching tennis, golf, and baseball, solving crossword puzzles, and planting beautiful flowers.

Delores was preceded in death by her beloved parents; sisters, Constance Tate (Herbert deceased) and Helen “Bea” Brown (George, deceased); and brothers, Vernon Pegram, James Pegram, and Rudolph Pegram. Her memories will be forever cherished by her precious children, Suzette Whyte (Andrew) of Bowie, MD; Kevin

Dunnigan of Adelphi, MD; and Soraya Dunnigan Brandon of Salisbury, NC; her stepdaughter, Alicia Dunnigan of New York City, NY; her sister-in-law, Anna Pegram of Pomfret, MD; her godchildren, Paris Mickens and Isaiah Mickens of Silver Spring, MD, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Her life was further enriched by enduring friendships with Catherine Owens, Jean Mickens, Freida Carr, and Brenda Walker.
