Bernard (Bernie) Norbert Chisley was born on November 16, 1922, to the late Eleanor W. Chisley and Bernard Chisley. He was the middle child of seven children. He was born in Pomfert, Maryland, where he attended public school. Bernard was also an avid sports fan, from college to pro sports to Golf, and Tennis he enjoyed it all.
Bernard enlisted in the Army in June 1942 and was drafted in April 1943. He served two three-year terms. He loved planes and flying. After 10 years of serving with the Air Force, Bernard began working for the David Taylor Research Center, where he retired after servicing 40 faithful years with the Navy and to the Federal Government of the United States.
While serving one on his terms on a furlough in 1949, he met the love of his life (the late) Evelyn Ward Chisley. Later that year, they both decided to buy their home in Washington, DC, where they resided and raised their four children. Bernard loved his gum and to hum.
Bernard leaves behind to cherish his memory his two children, Janice Nnawulezi and Willa Shumate; four grandchildren, Robert Jameson, Lawon Ferguson (Pastor George Ferguson), Ronald Shaw (Carmen Shaw) and Sheilesha Young (Walter Young); ten great-grandchildren, Takia Jenifer, Robert Jenifer, Roneal Jenifer, Iesha Jameson, Nicole Shaw, India Jameson, Imani Jones, Iasiah Young, Island Young, and Khadafi Williams; one great-great grandchild, Noah Vessels; and a host of nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 9 from 9:30 a.m. until time of service 10:30 a.m. at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home, 3401 Bladensburg Road, Brentwood, MD 20722. Interment Fort Lincoln Cemetery
