Bobby Joe Burns, affectionately known to his family and friends as Bobby Joe, departed this life on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, at Future Care – Pineview Rehabilitation Center after a long battle with illness. He was a loving husband, beloved father and grandfather who adored his entire family. He was deeply appreciated by all who knew him. His willingness to help others and mentor those in need will always be remembered. Born on August 16, 1941 in Danville, Virginia to the late Robert Burns and Helen Johnson, Bobby was 1 of 13 children. He is preceded in death by 2 brothers and 3 sisters. He received his education from school in Greensboro, North Carolina before moving to Washington, DC. In 1964 he started his career in the construction business as a skilled bricklayer. During this time he met the love of his life Hannah Mae Carroll and they married on October 24, 1969. He had 5 children, Sabrina Turner who preceded him in death, Jennifer Mitchell (Rodney); Christopher Clark (Janelle), Marcus Burns and Ebony Burns. After working for various companies, Bobby started his own company B&B Masonry and continued to work as a bricklayer until he became ill. Bobby was an avid bowler and bowled in several tournaments. On Friday nights after work Bobby got clean as a whistle and went straight to the bowling alley. He was a sharp dresser and a cologne connoisseur. You could smell him miles away. In his spare time he loved taking his wife and kids to the movies. He loved and adored all his kids and had a special spot in his heart for all his grandkids and great grandkids. He accepted the Lord as his Savior and was a member at Spirit of Peace Baptist Church. He faithfully served on the Deacon board, the usher board, and the Male Choir. He leaves to cherish his wife of 51 years Hannah Burns, Temple Hills, MD, children; Jennifer B. Mitchell (Rodney) of District Heights, MD; Christopher Clark (Janelle) of Atlanta, GA; Marcus Burns of Capitol Heights, MD; and Ebony Burns of Greensboro, NC.; 4 brothers, 5 sisters; sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and host of friends. Bobby loved all his grandkids and great grandkids: Tiphani Beaver, Ashley Turner, Jasmine Turner, Jalysa Burns, Lauren Turner, Martina Burns, Destiny Burns, Gloria Clark, Colby Clark, Cierra Burns, Marlei Burns, Paige Burns, and Quinn Burns. Great grandkids: Nydia, Eva, Dior, Garry, Gavin, Zoey, Gabriel, Ariel, Alana, Logan, Messiah, Bryce and Jada and one in the oven. Bobby was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and mentor to all. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him
