

Calvin Hines, Sr., son of the late Charlie Hines and Betsie Lee Davis, was born on January 25, 1948, in Washington, DC. He was called home to rest on November 09, 2020. He was preceded in death by: his parents, first wife, Janet Hudson, his siblings, Charles E. Hines, Lorenzo Hines, Bruce Darnell Hines, Sr., and LaVerne Hines-Bass. He is survived by his siblings, Charlynne Hines Trappier and John F. Hines.
In Calvin's last days he cried out to God. Calvin Hines, Sr. graduated from Eastern High School in 1966. He then volunteered and joined the Navy and served from 1966-1970. Later he returned and attended Washington Technical Institute. He was also employed by the DC and federal government. He served fifteen years as a Correctional Officer under the District of Columbia, Office of Corrections until he retired in 2010.
Calvin was known for having an outgoing personality, a great story-teller, a family historian and skilled matter craftsman. In his leisure time he helped his neighbors, family and friends with anything they needed. He dearly loved his family, enjoyed walking his dog Maggie and going to the casino. His generosity and kind spirit will be remembered.
Calvin's memories will be cherished by: his children, Dennell Eric Hines, Sr. (Karen), Derick Harrison (Katherine), Calvin Hines, Jr., Lynne Sanders and Kyndall Marie Hines; thirteen grandchildren; one great grand-child; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Hines, Vivian Hines, Denise Handon; brothers in law, Urban F. Bass, III and Richard Trappier; ex-wife, Myra L. Hines of Washington, DC; special friends, Sharon Williams of Hyattsville, MD and Giselle Sanders of Davenport, Florida; life-long friends, Ricardo, Ernestine and Candace Featherstone, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
