On February 5, 2026 (after a long and courageous battle with cancer), Carolyn released her daughter India’s hand, took the Lord’s hand, and comfortably and peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home.
Carolyn Pearline Johnson was born (on March 23, 1944) to the late William and Caroline Johnson. In 1962, Carolyn married Clarence LaFayette Huger Jr. and (of that union) three children were born.
Carolyn (a lifelong Washingtonian) was educated in the District of Columbia (D.C.), attended Eastern High School, the University of D.C., and retired after 52 years of service to the D.C. Government (with special fondness for her Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library coworkers). Carolyn also adored her “Evarts Street” village. Carolyn truly loved the Lord; and, her faith was unwavering. Carolyn was a devoted mother, liked watching movies, and was a homebody; yet, she really enjoyed partaking in various family activities and events.
Carolyn was preceded (in death) by her parents William and Caroline Johnson; sisters Shirley Jones and Linda Monteiro; granddaughter La’Kia Huger; great-grandson Jeremiah Leech; and, former husband Clarence Huger Jr..
To cherish her memories, Carolyn leaves two daughters, India Rene Huger and LaJuanda Charleen Huger-Burton; one son, Stephen Allen Huger IV; two grandchildren, Daniel Burton and Danielle Burton; four bonus grandchildren, Brian Simpson, Savon Burton, Bri’Ona Burton, and Bri’On Burton; thirteen great-grandchildren; and, a host of other relatives and friends.
