Carrie was born on May 21, 1944, to the late Ollie and Wilbert Evans in Hamlet, NC. Shortly after graduating from Monroe Ave High School, she met the love of her life Randy Bennett McCain Sr., and the couple married. From this union, three children were born. After moving to Washington, DC., Carrie and Randy served the Lord at Brooklyn Union Baptist Church for many years.
The Lord led Carrie and Randy to start a church in their home which would become Victory Christian Baptist Church in Washington, DC, where they served as deacon and deaconess until her transition.
Carrie McCain was a God-fearing woman, a homemaker who took immense pride in being responsible for her household's day-to-day tasks, including sending her husband off daily with a warm breakfast and lunch and caring for their children. Her family meant more to her than anything in the world. She was unendingly proud of her children and grandchildren and always tried her best to support them.
One of the fruits of the Spirit Carrie possessed was the ability to love, train and instruct children. And with this gift of love, Carrie started and managed a successful day care from her home. The same passion for creativity and art provided to her children was shared with other families in providing a loving environment to raise children. Carrie loved making costumes to celebrate holidays for each child and others in the neighbourhood in her care and observing their birthdays' Parents knew their child would be loved, taught the Lord's prayer, how to say grace, potty trained, served well-balanced meals and kept safe until pickup. These same gifts she gave to her grandchildren would become the woven stitches in their lives that demonstrated her love.
Another gift of Carrie was her ability to create beautiful art pieces through floral decorations. Her floral pieces were so gorgeous that she was often asked to create wedding flowers and centrepieces. She made flowers for each of her children's weddings.
Some of the many pastime activities that Carrie enjoyed were camping and travelling. God blessed her to travel to numerous places with her husband and children, known as the five pack. Carrie and Randy travelled through the United States in their RV and were blessed to take several cruises. The highlights of their adventures were the Mediterranean Sea, French Rivera, and Spain, as these were places her husband shared with her in his stories while serving in the US Marines.
Of the copious gifts Carrie embodied, she exemplified what it meant to be a Godly woman and committed wife. The love she shared with her husband was beautifully displayed when they sang to each other and cut a jig to a Motown favourite while dancing and spending time with one another. They were known as the Blue family because everything they did had something to do with the colour blue. They dressed alike in blue, and drove blue vehicles, a blue motorcycle and a blue RV. Little did they know this habit would soon be considered endearing to all who saw them.
Anyone who knew Carrie knew she was a God-fearing woman, loving mother, grandmother, and family member could ask. Carrie was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie and Wilbert McCain, and siblings Louise Evans Watkins, James, Curtis (Beatrice), and Ernest (Carolyn) Evans. Carrie is survived by her husband, Randy Bennett McCain Sr.; three children, Cheryl Campbell (Darryl), Randy McCain Jr (Brenda), Delicia Williams (Trenton); four grandkids, KelyCiaa Ennis, Deontre Gigger, Randy McCain III and Jeremiah McCain, one great-grandchild Dehlani Gigger, one sister Annie Evans and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and family and friends.
