Carroll Whitney Bowe, affectionately known as “Bowe” was born in Washington, D.C. on February 19, 1942 to the late Stephen Alexander and Nellie Bowe. He was an only child. He peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at the age of 79.
At the age of 11, Bowe accepted Christ and was baptized at the Vermont Avenue Baptist Church. He later joined the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church and remained a member until his passing. He received his education in the DC public school system and graduated from Spingarn High School.
In 1964 Bowe married his high school sweetheart and although they didn’t have any biological children, they were parents to many. Bowe and Joyce had numerous god children. Whenever his family and neighborhood children would graduate from high school, he would provide them with professional limo service with white glove service from start to finish, that was something he did until his health failed him.
After working at various law firms, Bowe decided to follow his dream of owning his own transportation company, “Carroll’s Transportation Service”. His high profile clientele included the late cleric theologian, Desmond Tutu, civil rights activist, Vernon Jordan, Mack McLarty (Counselor to the President, under the Clinton Administration), Jack Williams (Lobbyist) Gabrielle Union, and various others throughout the years.
He loved his family and enjoyed traveling with them. Whenever his out-of-town guest would come to visit, Bowe would take them to the museums, parks and all of the major landmarks in the DMV and give them the history behind each of them. Bowe loved good food and would visit all of the best restaurants in the DMV. He was known to travel out of town just to eat at a good restaurant. He loved to bowl, listen to good music such as standard and classical jazz, Christian, Country and R&B soul. He also loved to play cards, with bid whist being one of his favorites. Another one of his favorite hobbies was to take and develop pictures, he had all of the latest photography equipment. We will be remiss not to mention the fact that Bowe loved to talk and would debate you on any topic. He had a smile that would light up any room.
Bowe leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 57 years, Joyce Bowe; two brothers in-law, Clarence Wooten, Jr. (Brenda) of San Antonio, Texas; Abram Earl Wooten (Linda), Capital Heights, MD; nephews, Darin Swann, Ron and Clarence Wooten; two nieces, Margaret Leath (Rodney) and April Green (Vondell); cousins, Anthony Tweedy (Diane), Cheryl Tweedy, and Tynnetta Lee; great nephews, Andre, DeAngelo, Levon, and Stone; great nieces, Rodnie Leath, Hailey and Savannah Green; special friends Alfred and Jean Pimble, Ace and Wilda Evans, Harry Bazemore, good neighbors and a host of other relatives and friends.
