Early Wednesday morning, a beautiful fall day, God looked down at his precious child and decided that her pain and suffering were over. Christie had run her race, finished the course, kept the FAITH. She was ready to receive her reward for being a good and faithful servant. God quietly called her name and said “Well Done” and just like that she went home to be with the Lord.
Christie Lovera Cook was born on August 29, 1970 in Manhattan, New York to Eugenio Lovera and Elsa Gutierrez. She was the second of 4 children. Christie grew up in New York where she attended elementary school and John Bowne High School. From
there she followed her passion for design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. In 1988 she and her family moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia where she earned a degree of Associate of Applied Science from Commonwealth College
Virginia Beach, Virginia in 1990.
She met the love of her life, Tyrone Cook Jr. on June 17, 1989 while living in Virginia Beach, VA. They had a two year courtship and then got married on August 31, 1991 at Peace Lutheran Church in Washington, DC. Christie worked for the US Government at the Department of Energy for 8 years. After many years of desiring to be a mom, the Lord blessed their union with the birth of their precious daughter, My’a Cook on July 22, 1999. She resigned her job at the Department of Energy to become a stay at home mom. This she considered her greatest and most important assignment from God. She loved being a mom and was very proud of the young lady they raised.
In 2005 Christie found another one of her many callings, Real Estate. She started working with Caldwell Banker in Prince
George’s County until they left the county and then she moved to Long and Foster where she was welcomed. She excelled at her
craft and truly enjoyed serving family, friends and her entire community. Her work ethics were impeccable, everything she did
was “by the book”. She was truly organized and very punctual. She treated her clients like family and worked very hard to ensure
that the process would be as smooth as possible. Christie received many awards, acknowledgements and recognitions during her
long Real Estate career. She owned her own magazine – The Chesterfield Women’s Journal. She also volunteered for St. Jude
Children’s Research Hospital, The Tigerlily Foundation and countless other organizations. Christie mentored many breast cancer patients and was always putting together what she called the Chemo bag. This was a bag full of items she found very helpful during the long chemo treatments.
Christie’s faith was deeply rooted. She was drawn to Christ from an early age and believed that God could do the impossible. Her love for God, and understanding His purpose for her life, led her to share God’s word and message with everyone she met. Winning souls for Christ was her passion. She fiercely loved her church and tried not to miss a service. She would faithfully distribute the messages electronically to family and friends. During her later years her spiritual growth progressed so profoundly that her life became a constant communion between her and Christ.
Christie LOVED her family and did everything she could to make sure everyone was alright and taken care of. She was the peace maker, prayer warrior and nurturer. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband of 34 years, Tyrone Cook Jr.; one child, My’a Cook; her mother, Elsa (Robert); her father, Eugenio (Soledad); her grandmother, Elena; three sisters, Marilyn
(Joe), Janet (Mark), Julisa; and sister/cousin, Jasmine; two brothers, Eugenio Jr. and Ariel (Luz) ; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
