Deborah Mitchell affectionately known as “Deb” was a phenomenal woman whose love, strength, and gentle spirit left a mark on everyone she touched. Born on January 4, 1961, in Lynchburg, Virginia, to her loving parents Patricia and Franklin Britton Sr., Deb's journey began with love and family. At just 6 months old, her family relocated to Washington, DC — the city that would shape her life and lega
Deb was educated in the DC public school system and graduated from Cardozo Senior High School. She later found her calling in administrative work, with her most recent position at David Pomerantz & Associates, LLC. Her work ethic, dependability, and quiet excellence stood out in every place she stepped foot.
In 1984, Deb married Warren Mitchell. Together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, partnership, and unshakable love. Their union lasted over 47 years, and from it came their two greatest gifts their children, Keona and Andre.
On July 11, 2025, Deb peacefully transitioned surrounded by family and love. Though her earthly body rests, her spirit lives on in every heart she touched.
She was, without question, a phenomenal mother, a devoted wife, a proud grandmother, a cherished sister, and so much more. Her pride and joy were her children and grandchildren and she never hesitated to tell anyone how much they meant to her.
Deb had a heart for family and an incredible gift for nurturing. Whether it was raising her own children, babysitting her nieces and nephews, or simply being a source of comfort to those around her, she carried a love that was unconditional and effortless. She had a special touch the kind only a mother’s heart can give.
She was also someone who appreciated the little joys of life; things like receiving the Washington Post every day, one of the few people who still did. She could complete the crossword puzzle from top to bottom like it was second nature. She loved her soap operas, especially The Young & The Restless, and she never missed an episode. And when it came to music, you could catch Deb jamming to Frankie Beverly & Maze or The Whispers; real soul music that mirrored her own.
She enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends. She especially cherished traveling and creating unforgettable memories with her children Keona and Andre. She had a lighthearted side that came alive at family functions or events, where she loved to laugh and have a good time.
Deb was a proud and loyal Washington Commanders fan, never switching sides even during the toughest seasons. And when it came to food, she had a soft spot for a good steak and barbecue. But above all, she was known far and wide for her famous deviled eggs, a dish so good, it became legendary among all who knew her.
Deb is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Patricia and Franklin Britton Sr.; her brothers, Donald Britton and Kevin Britton; and her niece Dominique Little Britton. We find peace knowing they have welcomed her with loving arms.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband Warren Mitchell; her children Keona Tucker and Andre Mitchell; her grandchildren Jaylen Tucker, Azaria Mitchell, Aliyah Mitchell, and Andre Mitchell Jr.; her brothers Franklin Britton Jr. (Val), Andre Britton (Ida) and Jeffrey Britton (Felice); and a lifetime of love shared with her dearest friends Leticia Chase, Tina Snipes, and Pat Haskins. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends who loved her dearly.
Deb will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her nurturing spirit, her quiet strength, her warm smile, and her limitless love will live on in all of us. Though she may no longer walk beside us, her presence will never fade, her love is eternal, and her legacy is forever.
We love you, Deb.
Thank you for everything. Rest peacefully
A visitation for Deborah will be held Monday, July 21, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at New Samaritan Baptist Church, 1100 Florida Ave NE, Washington, DC 20002, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
