Dennis Miles

September 22, 1952June 8, 2021

Dennis “Mickey” Miles was born on September 22, 1952, in Washington, D.C., to James Edward Miles and the late Doris Jacqueline Miles. He was an energetic and loving child with a fearless spirit and protective of those he loved, especially his big sister Diane. He received his formal education from Taft Junior High School and McKinley Technical High School where he graduated in 1971.

Soon after returning from his class trip, Mickey was shot while out with friends and doctors declared that, if he survived, he would be paralyzed. With the love and support of family and friends and his strength and will to live, he proved them wrong. After two years in the hospital and a lot of determination, he progressed to walking with the assistance of a cane. Through this difficult time, he had the dedicated love and support of Joan Miles, who he later married on December 31st, 1977. From this union, they welcomed a beloved daughter, Jomeika Bumbray, who was the love of his life. Later, he attended Montgomery College of Business and worked for years as an insurance adjuster. Mickey always found a way to live life his way, on his terms, and touched many with his vibrant personality and baby-faced smile. He enjoyed spending time with friends, watching movies, sports, and a good game of backgammon. Anyone who knew him knew he was extremely competitive and a die-hard Washington “Skins” fan. He took pride in being “Lil Grandpa” to his grandson Patrick “PJ” and granddaughter Sydnie “Sugar face” and gave them unlimited amounts of patience, love and laughter. God blessed him with a gift of making sure any child in his presence felt safe, happiness and confident. Many that loved him felt that as well.

Dennis is survived by his father, James E. Miles; daughter Jomeika M. Bumbray, son-in-law Patrick M. Bumbray; two grandchildren Patrick M. Bumbray Jr. and Sydnie F. Bumbray; siblings Diane D. Miles and Gregory J. Miles; many nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
