DERICK ALAN VINSON
Derick Alan Vinson was born on March 3, 1987 in Washington, DC to Dolores C. Vinson and Eric T. Vinson, Sr.
Derick was educated in the District of Columbia parochial school system attending Holy Comforter-St. Cyrprian Catholic School and Gonzaga College-Preparatory High School. He spent his freshman year of college at Frostburg State University and continued his studies online at the University of Maryland University College majoring in Criminal Justice.
He had employment stints in the Department of Homeland Security, Andrews Air Force Base and Metro Access serving, respectively, in the Support Services Department, the Mall Complex and as a Driver.
He was also an avid sports fan with loyalties to his beloved Washington Nationals baseball team. As a season-ticket holder, Derick attended as many games as he could. His other guilty pleasure was in cheering on his hometown-NFL rival, Dallas Cowboys. He loved to rib his Uncle Andy whenever those games happened.
What brought Derick the most joy was fathering his son and buddy, Grant. They enjoyed weekend visits together for trips to Target, meals at Chic-fil-A and Chipotle and painting his Dad’s face. Grant would call well in advance to verify his pick-up dates and times in anticipation of time with Dad. Derick also shared with Grant his love of super-hero figurines and reading graphic novels. They bonded on school field trips, amusement park excursions and other outings.
Although Derick was a quiet spirit, he reveled in family traditions! From Christmas to Thanksgiving to Fourth of July to Family Birthdays, if he wasn’t working he was there. Quiet, but there! Derick also cherished time with his parents, aunts and grandparents and he was proud to be a sibling.
Derick was preceded in death by his father, Eric T. Vinson, Sr and his grandfather, Edgar T. Vinson, Jr. He is survived by Grant X. Vinson, son; Dolores C. Vinson, mother; Kimberly A. Sawyers (Dennis) and LaShonn S. Wright, sisters; Eric T. Vinson, Jr and Elton Scott, brothers; Myrtle L. Vinson and Dolores C. Wright, grandmothers; Pamela L. Sinclair and Reeva R. Wright, aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
