

Donald Nathaniel Brown, Sr. (Donnie), was born on January 13th, 1954, to parents Lorraine G.
Brown and Donald W. Bland, (both preceded him in death). He was called home suddenly
on May 2, 2025.
Donnie, as friends and family called him, received his formal education in the D.C. Public school
system. Shortly after graduating, he joined and served in the United States Marine Corps.
Following an honorable discharge, he held several jobs in food service and counselors until he
found his niche as a Federal Officer for the Smithsonian Museums. He retired as a highly
decorated officer in 2014.
Donnie was introduced to martial arts at the age of 12 years old, starting with boxing after
which he attained a golden glove status like his predecessors. With everything else in his life,
he strived to perfect the craft of martial arts by studying and reaching grandmaster status
in various martial arts, ultimately attaining the status of 10th Dan. The highest honor one can
receive. Simba Do Jang became a second family to him. He enjoyed teaching and introducing
numerous others to the sport.
Grandmaster Donald Brown was a Senior Executive Board Member to the United States Head
of Family Martial Arts Association International and International Supreme Elite Warrior
Council and World Korean Martial Arts Union and 10th Degree Black Belt Holder in all the
before mentioned organizations. He presided on the Tae Kwon Do and Ju Jitsu Board
of Directors. Grandmaster Donald also held a 9th Degree Black Belt from The Malaysian
Tae Kwon Do Federation and Global Tae Kwon Do Federation. Lastly, he was a Senior
Executive Board Member on the Security and Law Enforcement Councils.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory of four children: Donald, Jr., Danita, Junius
and Genese Brown; Fourteen grandchildren: Donald, III, Doneesha, Dontr’a, Elijah,
Natiya, Devon, Jeremiah, Kyree, Jniyah, Junius Jr., Kaleel, Akilah, Genesis, Azariah,
and a plethora of great-grandchildren. God children, Shameka Kittrel and Aiden
Hall; One sister; Sharon (Lynnette); One aunt, Floretta Carpenter; One Uncle,
Nathaniel (Sonny); One niece, Ebony Edwards and one nephew, Gregory Edwards,
and a host of other family and friends. He loved his family and was always there
when there was a need. He had a great heart and will be greatly missed.
