Doris Lavern Jones Briscoe was the daughter of Hiram Frank Jones and Grace Elizabeth Taylor Jones
Doris is survived by her husband Joseph Ralph Briscoe jr, her sister Judith Louise Jones Mims and her late sister Barbara Jean Jones Garcia.
Doris’ nieces are:
Rae Mims, Kristina Johnson, Teresa Robinson, Alicia Haripaul, and many cousins and friends from Washington DC
Doris was born in Washington DC February 21, 1936 at Freedman's Hospital. Now known as Howard University Hospital.
Doris was educated in the Washington DC school system and attended
Dumbar High school after graduation Doris attended Minor Teachers College. After graduating from college Doris went on to get her Master’s Degree in Library Science from Atlanta University.
Doris then applied to the DOD School system and worked in Germany for a year as a librarian. After returning from Germany Doris taught at Alice Deal Jr. High School where she taught Spanish. Upon leaving Deal Doris taught at Roosevelt High School teaching Spanish where she worked until she retired.
It was at this time that she married her husband Joseph Ralph Briscoe.
Doris was always looking to travel the world and she and her husband traveled to various counties when they retired.
One of Doris’ favorite things was listening to Mexican music and speaking Spanish to many of her friends.
Doris was one of a kind and a loving sister who will be truly missed.
