Dorothy Annabelle Young departed this life on October 29, 2025, while residing at Serenity Rehabilitation and Health Center. She was born on January 20, 1934, in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, the fifth child of John and Hatrell Brown.
After several years, her family moved from Maryland to Washington, D.C., where Dorothy was educated in the public school system.
After completing her education, Dorothy moved to Philadelphia to live and work with her older sister, Evelyn. It was during this time that she met and married Jimmy Young. They made their home in Philadelphia for several years before parting ways.
Upon returning to Washington, D.C., Dorothy was employed at Freeman’s Hospital, now known as Howard University Hospital. Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling to many destinations across the United States and abroad. She especially loved spending time at the beach.
After receiving Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, Dorothy found great joy and peace in reading the Bible and spending time in prayer.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Hatrell Brown; her sisters Evelyn, Thelma, and Barbara; her brothers Iley and Tommy; and her dear friend, Frank.
She leaves to cherish her memory her brother John, along with several cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends who loved her dearly.
Dorothy will be remembered for her warmth, faith, and gentle spirit. Her life was a testament to love, perseverance, and devotion to family and God.
Graveside service will be held at Fort Lincoln Funeral Cemetery at 11:00 AM on November 21, 2025
