Dorrel A Bell

Dorrel was born on October 4, 1943 in St. Ann, Jamaica to the late Stanley and Gladys Bell. The first of five boys, he attended Discovery Bay primary school and Tutorial College in Browns Town St. Ann.

In 1964, he relocated to the United States. Five years later, he married his soul mate, Shirley Rogers. This year they celebrated 51 years of marriage. Dorrel was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

Dorrel was a charismatic man, who loved life and would give of himself unselfishly. He possessed strong family values, anything you asked of him he would smile and say, “no problem”. He had a way of making the complicated seem simple. He was a beautiful person inside and out.

Dorrel worked for several embassies including the Embassy of Canada until his retirement after 38 years of service. He was well liked and had a knack for meeting people. It was nothing for him to walk into a room and walk out knowing five or six new people. Whenever you saw him, he was always smiling. He enjoyed a good joke and loved playing a prank or two.

Dorrel enjoyed traveling, fishing and gardening, but his real passion was golf. He loved a good game of golf whether it was watching it from the comfort of his home or physically playing the game. He had a very competitive nature, if you ever had a chance to play with him you saw that side.

Dorrel went to be with his heavenly father on Friday, June 14,

2019. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Shirley;

two daughters Wendy Y. Gaitwood and Jacqueline L. Bell; two sons, Ernest Gaitwood III (Trudy) and Dorrel A. Bell, Jr.; five adoring grandchildren; Devon Gaitwood, Brendan Findley,

Chelsea Gaitwood, JaLena Findley and Gaberiel Bell; four brothers, Ainsworth Bell (Yvonne), Lennox Bell (Susan), Carroll Bell (Jermaine) and Errol Bell (deceased); aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, as well as an innumerable amount of people who knew, loved and respected him.

Dorrel was truly a remarkable person who touched the lives of many people.
