Eleanor “Ellie” Callison-Phillips, 90 passed away on August 15, 2022 in LaPlata, Maryland. Born in 1931 in Hughesville, Maryland, “Miss Ellie” as she was known by friends was a lifelong resident of Maryland. She was a current member of Calvert Grace Community Church in Owings, Maryland, and St. John’s Episcopal Church in Mt. Rainier, Maryland in her earlier years.
In her early life, Ellie worked for Seaboard Finance Co. and later retired from Ford Motor Credit Co after 36 years of service. She shared residence in Edgewater Maryland with her partner Jay Callison, where she loved fishing, crabbing and drinking a good wine while sitting on the beach with their dog, Digger. She also enjoyed feeding the wildlife around her home, some of which were regulars that she had names for. It goes without saying that Ellie enjoyed life to the fullest and all that it had to offer including but not limited to the many horseshoe tournaments, and fishing competitions to see who could catch the largest or maybe even the strangest looking fish. She also hosted many neighborhood and family gatherings at her Beach home in Edgewater and so enjoyed Family, Friends, Country Music, Crocheting, Bingo and just having a grand time. There’s not a time when you didn’t see her without a smile on her face. When her partner passed away, she moved to Lothian where she met her husband, Leonard “Lee” Phillips.
She enjoyed staying busy and worked several years after retirement at a local flower shop; Hearts and Flowers of Edgewater where she would design flower arrangements and greet people. She loved being around people.
She is preceded in death by her husband Leonard (Lee) Phillips, her parents Walter Sr, and Viola Murphy and her Sister Virginia Patterson. She is survived by her brother, Walter Murphy Jr (Pat), of Corning New York, her children; Debbie Simmons (Randy), of Waldorf, MD., Cheryl Smith (Mac), of New Market, MD., Larry Callison (Nancy), of Lusby, MD., and Sandy Callison of Manassas, VA. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson, as well as various nieces, nephews and cousins.
