Quietly departed from this life on June 19, 2020. “Ells”, as most called him, was born on January 6,1931 to the late Lloyd Mouton and Lucy (Rich Mouton) Robinson. He was the second of four children raised and educated in Washington, D.C. Ells lived a full life- he worked and played hard. His work included service in the United States Army during the Korean War, and thirty plus years of government employment at the U.S. Printing Office and D.C. Housing Authority. His real gifting, however, was in the work he did with his hands. Many have been blessed by his ability to transform a slab of wood into a magnificent piece of furniture. He will always be remembered for his superb carpentry and woodworking skills. Not to mention his special interest in doors, keys and locks. Ells was proud to be a 33rd degree Mason who continued to support his lodge by wearing his ring. For many years, Ells played hard with “The Roadrunners” a social travel club he and wife Dot founded with their close friends. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling, and spending time at Longview Beach with family and friends. Later, while living in Chesapeake, he became the dominoes king.
Ells was very much the man who lived in “The House By The Side of the Road “described by Sam Foss in his famous poem:
Let me live in my house by the side of the road
Where the race of men go by-
They are good, they are bad, they
Are weak, they are strong,
Wise, foolish, - so am I
Then why should I sit at in the scorner’s seat or hurl the cynic’s ban?
Let me live in my house by the side of the road and be a friend to man
Ells was a compassionate, practical, and giving man who said what he meant and meant what he said.
His sisters Pauline McGee and Louise Borden preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Lori/Shellie Hasty (Thomas/Bop); Marvette Monroe (Rodney/Buster); brother Lloyd Mouton (Willie); Grandchildren Hollye McCallum (David); Tamice Spencer (Paul); Brandon Monroe (Katie); Jarryd(JT) Hasty (Brittney); Stephanie Milton (Tony); Reginald Hasty; Markia Hasty; Twelve great-grandchildren, long-time friend and companion Gladys Woodland and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and
