Ethel Hope Spencer

Ethel Hope Spencer, born on Saturday, January 11, 1936 in Refuge, Jamaica, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 in Washington, DC at the age of 86. She is survived by four children (Marcia, Maurice, Corine (June), and Christopher), three grandchildren (Clinton (Roy), Kiera, and Kerise), and two great-grandchildren (Naima and Ella). And as she effortlessly opened her home and heart to other people over the decades, her family has grown to include so many along her path, like Annette, Petal, Suzanne, Freddie, Meagan, Cassie, Marc, Marcos, Phillis, the Comers, the Denvirs, and the Leshers.

Ethel enjoyed gardening and shooing away squirrels, sewing, knitting, music listening, neighborhood birdwatching, neighborhood people watching, storytelling, humor, and grapenut ice cream.

To know her is to love her, and if you knew her, that meant she loved you too.

A visitation for Ethel will be held Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 9:30 AM at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home, 3401 Bladensburg Rd, Brentwood, Maryland 20722. A Celebration of Life will occur and be livestreamed on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 10:30 AM. A committal service will occur Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 11:30 AM at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Rd, Brentwood, MD 20722.
