Behold, I send an angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.
Exodus 23:20
Frank Leo Hicks, Sr. was born to Robert Butts and Bertha Rine Jones on December 6, 1935, in Milledgeville, Georgia. He entered his eternal home on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Pineview Nursing and Rehab in Clinton, Maryland.
Frank received his formal education in the Washington, DC, public school system, where he attended Paul Lawrence Dunbar High School and graduated in the Class of 1955.
Early in life, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and became an active member of Bible Way Temple in Washington, DC. Through the church, he would meet the love of his life, Pauline. The couple married, and from their union two children were born: Frank Jr. and Angela. Frank would go on to establish a career at the U.S. Library of Congress, retiring after more than 40 years of Federal service. Pauline preceded him in death in 2002.
Throughout his life, Frank’s faith in and love for God remained unwavering. He was a loving father and grandfather who greatly cherished every moment with his family and friends. He thoroughly enjoyed surprise visits from his granddaughter Nakesha, the progress and harvest of the backyard garden planted by his grandson Kevin, wholesome conversations with his granddaughter of love LaTreishia, Sunday visits from his daughter Angela, and trips to Costco with his son Frank Jr.
He was very fond of music and the piano. He enjoyed playing, as well as teaching others. He also loved singing in the church choir. And he had to have his fresh fruit and fried fish on Fridays. His love and compassion for others will be forever remembered.
Treasured memories of his life and love will always remain in the hearts and minds of his son, Frank Leo Hicks, Jr. and daughter, Angela Marie Hicks; his grandchildren Kevin Hicks and Nakesha Silver (Darrin) and granddaughter of the heart LaTreishia Johnson (Tony); his great-grandchildren Rain, Kevin, Tony Jr., Abel, Kase, and Bria; his sister, Willie Mae Matthews; his brother, Robert Butts, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
