

Gerald Eugene Schlorb Sr, affectionately known as “Grizzly Bear” to his family and coworkers, and “Gerry” to the Cottage City Fire department, passed away peacefully at his home in Bowie MD at the age of 71.
Born October 7, 1953, to Janey and Edward Schlorb, Gerald grew up in Colmar Manor and Cottage City, MD where he met the love of his life, Robin Mahorney. The two recently celebrated 47 years of marriage, a partnership rooted in love, laughter and adventure. He is pre deceased by his infant daughter Nancy and together, they raised 5 children: Tina (Robert), Barbara (Michael), Gerald Jr., Kimberly, and Cindy (Chris), and 11 grandchildren: Christopher Jr, Jasmine Serenity, Layla, Jayden, Jonathan, Colton Austin, Owen, Wyatt and one on the way. Also survived by his brother Eddie (Tere) Schlorb and his family in Calvert County MD.
Gerald built his life around his passions: family, craftsmanship, and community. He loved his family deeply and was an extremely hardworking man. Gerald volunteered with the Cottage City Fire Department from the age of 16, dedicating over 20 years to serving his community. He started his career at Fort Lincoln Cemetery as cemeterian and worked his way up to supervisor over the course of 20 years.
A lifelong tinkerer, Gerald was often found in his workshop, creating beautiful woodworking pieces. His hobbies included collecting sports memorabilia, which he passed down to his grandchildren, who continue to enjoy this pastime. You could always find Gerald playing air guitar or pretending to play drums to his favorite music while in his workshop. He also enjoyed long car rides and taking trips along country roads.
Please join us in a celebration of life at Fort Lincoln Cemetery on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. Visitation will begin at 12:00pm with the funeral service to commence at 2:30 pm.
