OBITUARY

Gilbert R. Wright Sr.

July 17, 1941July 6, 2019

Gilbert Reed Wright Sr. was born July 17th 1941 in Wetipquin County of Wicomico, Maryland to Willis Charles Wright and Mary Amelia Moore. God received him home with open arms on July 6, 2019. Gilbert received his high school diploma in 1959 from Salisbury High School in Maryland. Following High School, Gilbert furthered his education by attending Bowie State (teaching), The Washington Technical Institute (radio and tv repair), and University of the District of Columbia (automotive). He married Gale Holmes on December 26, 1961 and later married Mary P Henderson on June 8, 1969. Four children were born from these marital unions. Gilbert was a jack-of-all-trades. Some of his many trades and talents were Master Barber, Ice Cream truck driver and Cab driver however; he found his true calling as a Master Mechanic. Gilbert worked for the DC government for 25 years as a mechanic and also owned and worked in his own Automotive Shop at 8th and H. St in downtown DC for 45 years. On many occasions he would only charge his clients for the cost of parts and barely anything for his labor. He could not and would not rest until your car was fixed or determine to be unfixable. When he did not have his head under the hood of a car or his hands fixing and building something, Gilbert could be found at the nearest bowling alley, riding motorcycles, listening to country music, visiting with close friends and family, donating to a multitude of charities, and taking great care of his beloved cats. During his later years in life, he traveled through a variety of spiritual explorations, which lead him to a final place of peace and happiness. Gilbert is survived by his four children, Terrence C Wright (Damtia), Terrecita D Wright (Steele), Gilbert R Wright Jr. and Stephanie C Wright; his sister Wanda L Wright and brother Howard C Wright; 10 grandchildren Cameron D Wright, Terri C Wright-Gresholm (Hurshella), Annie E Wright, Jermaine M Steele, Devin M. Steele, Louis E. Diggins (Jordan), James A. Diggins, Maurice N Steele, Ciara Greenwood (deceased) and Rachel E Collins; 9 great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
