Gregory Nathaniel Meads

Gregory Nathaniel Meads was born on June 21, 1958, in Washington, D.C. He was the second son born to the union of Catherine Scott and Donald N. Meads. He passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 67.

Raised in Washington, D.C., Greg excelled in athletics at an early age. He played first base in baseball and wore number 14 as a guard on the basketball court. After graduating from Mackin High School, he attended Lincoln University in Pennsylvania on a full basketball scholarship. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and in 1980, he became a proud member of the Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., establishing lifelong bonds of brotherhood.

During summer classes in 1979, on his 21st birthday, Greg met Dawn Cockrell, who would become an important part of his life's journey. They were married on June 29, 1985 and together they welcomed two cherished children, Aaron Gregory and Allison Dawn. Although their marriage ended, they remained friends and shared a lasting commitment to their children and family.

Of all his accomplishments, Greg's greatest joy was being an extraordinary father. Affectionately known as "Daddy," he treasured every moment with Aaron and Allison. They would often tell him he was "the best Daddy they ever had." Whether coaching football, soccer, track or attending a swim meet or dance recital, Greg was always on the sidelines encouraging his children to strive for excellence, work hard, and believe in themselves. He celebrated every milestone in their lives and was immensely proud of their accomplishments.

Aaron earned a bachelor's degree from Morehouse College and later an MBA. Allison was named to the Dean's List throughout her years at Frostburg State University, where she earned her bachelor's degree before completing dual master's degree program, earning an MHA and MBA.

Greg had many passions. He loved photography and captured thousands of memories. He was also an accomplished hand dancer who became an instructor with the Smooth-N-EZ Dance Troop. His talent and love for dance took him across the country, where he participated in numerous dance competitions.

Professionally, Greg had a career in sales and later served as a Loan Officer with Industrial Bank of Washington, retiring in 2024 after 10 years of dedicated service.

Greg leaves to cherish his memory his beloved children, Aaron Gregory Meads of New York, New York, and Allison Dawn Meads of Bowie, Maryland; his brothers, Donald (Bobette) Meads of Bowie, Maryland, Kevin (Tracey) Meads of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and Bronson Meads of Tampa, Florida; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, fraternity brothers, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
