

Gwendolyn Yvonne Dean was born on November 12, 1946 in Washington DC, to the late James N. Dean Sr. and the late Ora Lee Wilson. Gwen transitioned on January 27, 2021. Gwen lived in Washington DC all of her life. She was a graduate of Dunbar High School. After receiving a college degree, she went on to work for the United States Postal Service.
Gwen was a successful exemplary employee that took pride in her work and received many accolades over the course of her career. Gwen retired from the Postal Service in 2009 after a long career of 44 years.
Her long list of hobbies included traveling, shopping, gardening and reading. Gwen loved to travel. She went on several international trips in her youth. She often traveled to Hawaii to visit her sister, brother-in-law and nieces. Gwen was never afraid to try different things, whether it be traveling to a new place, trying a new restaurant, or going to a baseball game.
Gwen was a spitfire, quick to speak up for those she loved. Everyone that knew Gwen will miss her infectious laugh and passion for those she loved most.
Gwen was preceded in death by her brother, James N. Dean Jr. She is survived by her sister Jacquelyn and brother-in-law Reginald; along with brothers Kenneth and Karl; her loving nieces and nephew; and a host of other loving relatives and friends; including longtime friend Thomas Sullivan.
