Howard Fleming, Jr. was born March 19, 1944, to the late Ella and Howard Fleming, in Washington, DC. He was the second of six children. He was baptized at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church and later joined 19th Street Baptist Church. Howard was educated in the DC Public School System and graduated from Eastern Senior High School in June 1962.
In 1965, he married Yvonne and from that union two children were born, Kim and Angela. Howard's hobbies were fishing, hunting, tennis and golf. He also loved traveling and visited many states and countries.
Howard was employed with Safeway, Inc. for many years. He was a real go getter, while working full time at Safeway he attended Federal City College (FCC) and was in the first graduating class of FCC which was later changed to the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). Upon graduating from UDC he received a full scholarship to Northwestern University and graduated with a Masters Degree in Economics.
In 1980 Howard began his career at the U.S. Department of Commerce at the International Trade Administration doing economic research. During that time he spent a year working at the White House during President Jimmy Carter’s administration working on the Anti-Inflation Program staff for which he received an award from the President.
Howard was preceded in death by his father, Howard Fleming, Sr., mother, Ella W. Fleming and brother Marshall E. Fleming. He leaves to cherish his memory: one brother Cornelius H. Williams, three sisters Sandra F. Lesesne, Ella F. Townsell, Linda F. Banks (Ernie), daughters Kim Renee Fleming-Tate, Angela Danielle Fleming, two granddaughters Bryanna Renee Tate, Tia Valencia Tate, his significant other Angela Robinson and a host of other relatives and friends.
