

Mrs. Irene Akinleye was born February 21, 1959 in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria and transitioned to be with the Lord. September 17, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Chief Joseph & Mrs. Rachel Ogbebor. And the 8th Ogbebor child out of 38 siblings. She attended high school at Queen Idia College of Benin City graduating in 1976.
Upon the completion of her secondary education, Mrs. Akinleye relocated to Rome, Italy and began studying French and Italian at University of Rome. She returned to Lagos, Nigeria in 1982, landing a job at AGIP Oil Company as the Personal Assistant and International Interpreter for the CEO. She worked at AGIP Oil Company until 1987 where she met her husband Mr. Akintayo Akinleye. They were married in February,1987. The couple relocated from Nigeria to the United States in 1989.
Irene had a dynamic career starting off as a French Interpreter for the World Bank and later transitioned into a career as a Registered Nurse.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and has been in the field over two decades. She served at Walter Reed Army Medical Center during the peak of the Iraq War helping to care for wounded American soldiers. She concluded her nursing career at Washington Medstar Hospital Center. Passionate about advancements in healthcare, in 2008 Irene launched a private medical supply company, named Emirakin Nigeria Limited. Emirakin operated as a Nigerian based medical supply manufacturing company that held the American standard of quality.
Irene was a loving and vibrant woman who cared deeply about community, family, and friendship. She was a proactive member in ICOGA, Edo Association, DC Chapter, and her church Redeemers Church of Christ. She loved the Lord fiercely and exuded His goodness every opportunity she got.
She will be missed and cherished by many. She is survived by her loving family including her husband of 35 years Akintayo E. Akinleye and her three children Yewande E. Akinleye, Olubode E. Akinleye, and Omoloade R. Akinleye. She also is survived by her dear brothers and sisters, precious mother, and darling in-laws.
