Janis was educated by the District of Columbia Public Schools System. She was employed by Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where she served the active duty soldiers, military veterans, and their families for over thirty years until she retired. During her employment at Walter Reed, she received The DAISY Award® for Extraordinary Nurses and numerous commendations for her services.
Janis lived a beautiful, fullfilled life. A woman of exquisite taste, she provided comfort and support while asking little in return. She taught her children integrity, loyalty, and compassion, and instilling them with the confidence necessary to pursue life with a pervasive, infectious passion.
Her family was her sole focus, and her determination and dedication in supporting her family was felt to the very end. Janis was a free spirit, she believed in flexibility and change. She valued loyalty, honesty, and authenticity. She believed that everyone needs a harmless outlet for stress, and her outlet was listening to music, poetry, dancing, singing, art, traveling, rooting for her team The Washington Commanders and spending time with her family.
She had an amazing sense of humor and a beautiful personality! Her wit was razor sharp and she was known to say the most shocking things on her mind, in hopes of helping you see a new perspective.
Janis will be deeply missed by all those that she’s left behind. Our hearts are so broken by this tremendous loss. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.
Janis leaves to cherish her memory by her survived children- Charlotte, Rosalind, Marcus, Lisa, and Marsha; stepdaughter Cheryl; her grandchildren- Prentiss, Valincia, Damonn, Dominque, Maurice, La'Rell, Marcellus; great-grandchildren- Tyshea, Nevaeh, Nickelle, and Niko; son-in-law-Lequint. She was predeceased by her daughter-Tawanna and grandson Tony.
