The youngest child of the late James Sr. and Christabelle Wedge, Jessie received his education in Prince George’s County Public Schools and worked for over 30 years at
B&B Catering. Once Jessie left employment at B&B Catering, he then began employment with Mellwood at NASA in Greenbelt, MD, for 20 years, where he received recognition as employee of the year 2 years in a row until his retirement in June of 2022.
Jessie, a longtime resident of Washington, DC, relocated to Springdale, MD, in 2002 to reside with his brother, Thomas, and sister-in-law, Barbara. Jessie enjoyed sports, and his favorite team was the Washington Commanders. He also enjoyed spending time traveling to Atlantic City, playing pool, visiting with co-workers, watching television in his room, and cleaning, but most of all, Jessie enjoyed landscaping.
Every year, Jessie could not wait for spring to arrive because it meant it was time to pull out one of his favorite lawnmowers from among the three that he had. Always proud to display his set of keys to the backyard shed, from April to October, he could faithfully be seen outside once a week, taking meticulous care of the yard. When he wasn’t cutting the grass, he could often be found walking around the perimeter of the yard, making sure that nothing was out of place.
A devoted believer in God, Jessie last attended Galatians Baptist Church and willingly served whenever called upon. Jessie was a quiet and kind soul whose gentle presence touched the lives of many. His warmth and compassion will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Preceding him in death were his parents, James Sr., and Christabelle; four brothers: Thomas, Sylvester, Gilbert, and James, Jr.; two sisters, Delores “Barbara Jean” and Geraldine.
Jessie leaves behind to cherish his memory Nephews: Michael, Raymond (Pamela), Kevin (Renee), Aaron (Ronnice), Emmanuel (Marce), and Bobby. Nieces: Jenae, Pamela (Freddie), Sylvia, Miranda (Walter), Gretchen (Terry), Theresa, Yvonne (Clark), Angela (James), and Zonia (Daryl). His special riding buddies, Ronnie and Jerome, and a host of other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
“He fought a good fight, he kept the faith, he won the race!”
