of Suitland, Maryland
Passed away on Sunday December 5, 2021, he was 63 years old
Larry was born on August 2, 1958, in Washington, DC, to the late Raymond and Patricia Bettis-Spinner. He was the oldest of (5) children. From a very young age, Larry was very protective of his younger siblings. He watched over them while his mother worked, even combing and braiding his sisters hair and ironing their clothes before school. Larry was a nice and easy going guy with a big personality, making friends everywhere he went. He was well-known, well-liked, quick-witted, smart and hilariously funny. Larry loved to crack Jokes and laugh and could turn any situation into a laughing matter; never letting an opportunity to poke fun pass. Larry liked to have a good time. More seriously, Larry loved to read and learn and enjoyed watching educational programs. Although he didn’t travel much, he stated he’d been all over the world in books. Larry attended schools in DC and PG County and completed his education at Job Corps in Woodstock Maryland, where he studied Carpentry. Funny story; After Larry had taken the GED test at JOB Corps, many students had informed him that the counselors and instructors were looking for him. Fearing he’d done something wrong, Larry hurried to find out what was going on only to be congratulated because he’d received the highest score of anyone who’d taken the test. He had received a perfect score and didn’t even study. With this, came pressure to continue-on to college which Larry declined, stating, I just want to complete this program and get a job so that I can take care of myself. Larry went on to work for many companies throughout the years, the last being the Mission of Love, a job he loved because he felt he was helping people. In 2016, Larry received the Candle of Service Award for Outstanding and Dedicated Service to Mission of Love Charities and the Community, an award that made him proud. After an ankle injury, Larry was happy that he could retire, often stating he’d been working since he was 14 years old. For the last 25 years, Larry resided in the Suitland area where he had many close friends and associates. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His smile and distinctive voice will remain in our memories forever. Larry had (2) sons; Terris and Larry Jr. (deceased). Larry often stated, having his son was the proudest moment in his life and the best thing he’d ever done. Larry leaves to mourn his son Terris, his brother Anthony (Joyce), sisters Veronica and Victoria (Darrell), Nephews John and Daniel, Nieces Tiara, Danielle (Derek), Danae, Imari and Kymberli, (4) great-nephews and (2) great-nieces. Devoted companion Trina Gadson and her loving daughter Shawauna Mason. Long-time friends Patsy and Tony and a host of relatives and caring friends. Larry had faith in the resurrection promise found at Acts 24:15, which states “And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous”.
