Laura Bell Taylor, affectionately known as Lil Laura, was born on September 1, 1938. She was the second oldest of six children born to Inell Vance in Madison County, Mississippi. Laura was educated in the public schools of Jackson Mississippi and attended Lanier High School. Laura would later relocate to Washington, DC to join her brother, the late Clifton Thompson. Laura worked for Federal Service Incorporated. Prior to retirement, Laura worked with the Edgewood Management Corporation.
Laura confessed Christ at an early age. She loved reading scripture and listening to gospel music. She enjoyed cooking and shopping. Laura could be stern and was not afraid to let you know how she felt while continuing to love you at the same time. It’s been said that the best portion of a good person’s life are those nameless, unmentioned acts of kindness and of love. She gave selflessly to so many without hesitation or acknowledgement.
Laura peacefully entered eternal rest on the morning of June 2, 2024. Although her sudden passing was unexpected to us - it was not to God, who released her from all pain and suffering. Preceding her in death was her grandmother, Mary Dismon; her mother, Inell Vance; siblings Clifton Thompson of Washington, DC; LeRoy Vance of Jackson Mississippi; Bernice Vance (affectionately known as Johnnie Mae) of Washinton, DC; and granddaughter, Marion Suggs of Washington, DC.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished by her children: Elaine Duncan (Tony Duncan), Willie Taylor (Rosell Taylor), and Barbara Ann Taylor – all of Washington, DC; her sisters: Georgia Henderson of Houston, TX and Gloria Vance of Jackson, Mississippi; Nine (9) grandchildren; Five (5) great-grand children and 1 great-great grandchild; and host of loving relatives, friends, and acquaintances.
