Lily Darnell Harvin Hearn Coates affectionately known as “Ma” by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was born September 2, 1954, in Washington, DC to the late Edward Harvin and the late Mary Allan Levine Harvin. She departed this life on Tuesday morning, February 11, 2020.
Lily was employed at the Small Business Administration, where she worked for many years until her retirement in 2005. She was extremely kind, generous, and compassionate, yet was known for her honesty and directness, never ceasing to speak her mind when necessary. Lily posted a witty sense of humor and enjoyed her life to the fullest. She loved to cook and her culinary skills were widely known and praised. Lily also enjoyed hand dancing, bowling, and entertaining, her home was often used for family gathering. She lived her life! Lily’s greatest source of joy was her family which was the focal point and foundation of her life. Her devotion to them knew no bounds and she was deeply cherished and beloved in turn.
Lily leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Latoscha Nicol Harvin; son John Edward Hearn; Grandsons, Christopher and his wife Lesli, DaQuan, Tyrone, Jeremy, and Andrew Harvin; Great-grandchildren Kayla, Joel, Chris Jr., Otto and Alora and devoted sister Edna Jennifer Harvin-Battle and nephews Charles and Brian Battle; and her special friend Curtis Pinkney; devoted nieces, nephews and a host of dear relatives and loyal friends.
