

Malinda Cauthen Thiero was born on July 11th,1948 in Washington DC to her late parents Cora Belle and Azer Cauthen. She is survived by her older brother Azer Cauthen Jr., her older sister Gwendolyn Diate, her son Amadou Thiero, Nephews and Nieces; Bryan Cauthen, Lynn Cauthen, Tineal Cauthen, Aaron Cauthen, Renee Jones, Secou Diate, Trent Jones, and several other nieces, Nephews and cousins. Growing up in DC she was a part of the I St. community, where she was revered, loved and built lifelong friendships. She graduated from Eastern High School class of 66, and
Washington DC Teacher's College with a BA degree in Social Studies.
Malinda Cauthen Thiero married Ibrahim Thiero and gave birth to her son Amadou Thiero. She loved the beauty and wisdom of African culture and art. She was very passionate about encouraging the dignity and well being of the African diaspora all over the world and bridging the gap between Africans and African Americans. She assisted her former partner in running a West African cuisine restaurant (The African Room) in DC that provided African food, music, and vibrancy to the DC community.
Malinda also devoted her career and life to teaching in the District of Columbia Public School system giving over 20 years of service. She retired in 2013 very well known and respected for never giving up on youth and educating the next generation of DC leaders.
As a retiree she found joy spending time with her son, gardening, playing cards with friends on bridge and Bid whist teams, traveling, and donating to charities. She also was a well known community member and fixture of the Hattie Holmes Retirement Center.
Malinda Cauthen passed away peacefully in her sleep of natural causes on May 27th, 2022. She will be known for her authenticity, laughter, joy, service, unwavering support, and always speaking her mind. While alive, Malinda lived by a personal code of being kind to others as you would want the same in return.
Malinda looks forward to watching over her son, siblings, nieces and nephews, and her beloved friends and community members. She will be deeply missed
