I met Mrs. Margaret 'Goldie' Burnett Hanson when I was eighteen. She welcomed me into her home, she showed me love and compassion with ease. She showed me what family was, that is was/is not only through blood that makes us family. She said to call her Goldie, but I couldn't, she didn't like me saying "yes ma'am", so we chose Miss Ma'am, and she liked it! I remember I was cooking some eggs one day, burner on high, she came into the kitchen and said, "you going to eat that? You only have to leave them on for a second, you're burning them." I was so embarrassed, but she helped me to become a woman and a mother to her granddaughters. I love you unconditionally and forever will! You're my bonus mom! Thank you is not even enough.
I love you!

"Mama Goldie" has been apart of my life for 20 years. I didn't speak to her often enough, but when she called me or we get to visit each other it was like a day never passed since we last spoke. I am comforted with knowing she knew that I love her. I was able to tell her that on her last birthday. She was so happy being surrounded by family on her special day. She will be truly missed. Her memory lives on.

I have many fond memories of Goldie, especially from childhood. Lessons learned and teachings from her trying to be a true big sister with much wisdom and knowledge you can't learn just anywhere. The most memorable is from her being there for my daughter's birth, making sure I got to the hospital, and helping me in that first week of motherhood. I will carry those memories and treasure them in my heart forever. Bless you sister, you are at peace now.

My dear cousin “Goldie,” I like to think that we were good friends when we were children, although we may have grown apart as adults. You brought so much beauty into this world. May God bless you and your family.
