OBITUARY

Margaret Richeson Hicks

June 14, 1939May 1, 2021

Margaret Richeson Hicks passed away peacefully at home, on May 1, 2021, after a brief illness. She was born in Amherst, Virginia on June 14, 1939, to the late Andrew Jackson Richeson and the late Carlena Burton Richeson. Margaret graduated from Dunbar High School, in Lynchburg, VA, in 1957. On May 9, 1959, Margaret married her late husband Millard Fillmore Hicks in Lynchburg, Virginia. Shortly after their marriage, Margaret and Fillmore moved to Washington, DC. They had three children, Derrick, Keith & Robin. Margaret was a stay-at-home mom for many years, actively serving in her children’s schools and extra-curricular activities, often leading the Parent Teacher Association. She started her working career in 1979, with Control Data, before transitioning to Raytheon where she worked as a Production Manager, until retiring in 2004. Margaret joined Peace Baptist Church in Washington DC, on July 18, 1999 and was an active member, serving on the Usher Ministry for seventeen years, the Intercessory Prayer Ministry, and serving as a worship leader for the Wednesday Noonday Bible Study. Margaret was also a member of the Interdenominational Church Ushers Association. At the request of her pastor, Margaret started a weekly prayer call during the pandemic. The prayer call was officially renamed in her honor. Margaret’s passions were her faith, family, gardening, yoga, traveling, collecting angels, and playing word games on her iPad. Margaret’s signature greetings were, “Hi Baby” and “Bless your heart”. Margaret leaves us warm memories of her caring spirit, loving smile, and a legacy of love. Margaret is survived by her three children, three siblings, Andrew, Shirley and Roy, a daughter in-law Karen, son in-law Michael, and three grandchildren Cameron, Kendyll and Matthew, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Keith and family,

What a lovely service for your precious Mom. Elaine and I enjoyed the stories shared of her tremendous faith and love of people. Through my dear friendship with Keith, I know she clearly passed those same passions onto her children. A life well spent in the service to the Lord and others and what a true blessing to know she has reached her eternal home.

May your many wonderful fond memories with her sustain each of you during the difficult earthly days ahead and what a wonderful assurance of knowing you will see her again in Glory.

With much love and sympathy, Robin

I am humbled that God would extend such grace to introduce me to His precious jewel Margaret and her family through our mutual love of doggies. I have been deeply touched by her legacy of love, her warm welcome, her life of service to others and her faith. I am grateful to the Hicks Bell family for sharing your extravagant love and healing gifts with me. Thank you for the opportunity to join the beautiful celebration of Margaret's life via livestream. I was moved by the scriptures, music, stories, praise, reflections and prayers. Margaret, you have truly blessed my heart. Well done, good and faithful servant. Rest now in peace with Jesus. I look forward to seeing you again.

What a beautiful tribute from you all to Aunt Margaret today‼️ I will ALWAYS remember her for her welcoming smile and warm hugs from the 1st time we met. She was exactly the woman you all described her to be and so much more to many I am sure.

Unfortunately, I was unable to come through today to pay my respects, however, I will keep you all in my prayers during this time. Rest assured that your Mom will be watching over you all. She has physically departed, but will forever be your ALL THE TIME ANGEL.

I love you all,

Paula Bland
