Mario Van Don Alton Johnson was born in Philadelphia, PA on July 5, 1952, to the late Glorious V. Johnson (Moore) and Eugene Johnson. Mario was the 4th of 7 children. When Mario was 6 years old the Johnson family relocated from Philadelphia, PA to Washington, DC where Mario was raised in a very loving Christian home. Mario received his education in the DC Public School System.
On Saturday, October 28, 2023, God in His infinite wisdom, called Mario home after a brief stay at the Howard University Hospital where he was surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Mario is preceded by his parents Glorious V. and Eugene Johnson, brothers, Daniel Eugene Johnson, Santonio Johnson, and Thomas (Tommy) Johnson, niece Somaye Davis, nephew Gerome Davis, and dear friend Juanita Johnson.
Mario leaves to cherish his memory his three children, Iesha McGhee (Willie), Tasha Dickerson (Brian), and his son, Damari Green, two brothers; Francisco Johnson and Dallas Johnson, one sister Bernadette O’Brien. Grandchildren; Darien McGhee, Anaya McGhee, and Brian Dickerson Jr., great-grandchildren Darien Jr. and Eleini McGhee. He also leaves to cherish his memory his extended family, Stephanie, Tykeea, Diovion, and Malachi, who lovingly called him as Pa-pa, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, his oldest surviving aunt, Thernell (Moore) Levenberry and many relatives and friends.
