I have known the Nanson family (grew up next door) for over 60 years.  Mrs. Nanson always had the most beautiful yard, full of blooming flowers 3 seasons out of every year.  Mrs. Nanson was such a gentle woman.  I remember her feeding teeny tiny baby birds whose nest had been shoved out of a tree in her yard.  She was also extremely patient as she taught me how to hand sew “blind” stitches in clothing.  I will never forget Mrs. Nanson letting my 3 year old brother use Sher’s toy vacuum on the leaves in her backyard…he was just so industrious in his attempt to clear the leaves.  She worked tirelessly on her yard and it showed with such spectacular blossoms throughout the decades.  It was an honor to sit with Sher and Mrs. Nanson one last time on August 27th and to say a gentle goodbye to a marvelous woman.  I will never forget Mrs. Nanson who gave me so much to remember.  Sher, you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers and may our Lord bring you peace and comfort!

Since the late 1950’s, ‘Mrs. Nanson’ has been a part of my life, whether as a neighbor whose home I knew as well as my own, or a second mom to the girls in the hood.  Sleepovers were fun, and I looked forward to French toast and juice after an overnight visit.  One of my funniest memories is from a sunny day, and Mrs. Nanson was sharing some stories with us on the grass, with her dress spread out.  I dont know where the little dog came from, or whose it was, but without any warning, it walked on her dress and peed.  We were all in shock! Other memories include badminton games in the front yard, baseball games as well, tree climbing and calling out to other kids who walked by.  Years after I moved away and had my own family, Mrs. Nanson babysat my two young sons while I attended a family funeral. She was ageless. It was Mrs. Nanson who first noticed a lack of activity at my dad’s house 2 doors away.  She contacted me and that was the beginning of our frantic efforts to reach my dad.  Sadly, he had passed away overnight, but it was Mrs. Nanson who noticed the newspaper still lying in the driveway and the car untouched.  That was 21 years ago. With the passing of Mr.Nanson, who teasingly called me ‘Cary Matherine’ in earlier years, I realized the old neighborhood kids had only one last parent from the childhood years.  Mary Nanson was our last connection to those happy, carefree days. 94 years on earth was a gift to us all.  RIP, Mrs. Nanson.  Surely, you are with God and we can only envy your joy. I have just known Mary for a short time and found her to be someone who will listen to the reading of God words, and for this I ensure to read the Bible to her, It find me great pleasure to read the word of God to her , and I see her sat ,relax and listen as I read to her. Mary you will be missed but you are in the arms of the Lord. May your soul rest in peace.
