Maxine Motley Lee-Moore, known to some as "Max", was born on February 2, 1949, in Danville, Virginia. She was the first of four children born to Edith Marie Williams-Motley and Willie Motley. While Maxine was an infant, the family moved to Washington, D.C. Maxine departed this life on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at the Casey House (Montgomery Hospice) in Rockville, Maryland.
Maxine was always quiet. During her youth, she enjoyed spending time with her friends. Some of her favorite activities were dancing and listening to music, riding her bike all around the neighborhood, experimenting with hairstyles, and sitting on the front porch talking with her friends.
Maxine attended Madison Elementary, Brown Junior High, and Cardozo High School in the D.C. Public School System.
After graduation, she was hired as a teller for the American Security and Trust Bank. While employed there, she met Charles H. Lee, who became her husband and father of her two sons; Anthony and Charles. Maxine loved "her boys" dearly, spending weekends taking them to various places. At times, she was that mother lion; she was a proud mother. She and Charles grew apart and eventually divorced.
After leaving the bank, Maxine worked for the United Planning Organization (UPO), in the District office of Delegate Walter Fauntroy, the Cities and Schools Program, and finally, the Metro Transit Authority for Rail. She retired from Metro after over 25 years as Manager of Administrative Services.
Maxine enjoyed playing cards, taking short road trips, often with her sisters, eating out, going to the casino to play slots, spending time with the "Silvah Sistahs" (a senior group), and spending time with her first grandson.
Later in life, while serving on Jury Duty, Maxine met James Moore and eventually married. With this marriage came a bonus daughter, Jackie.
Unfortunately, soon after her retirement, James' health began to fail and Maxine became his primary caregiver.
Maxine was always generous and determined. She loved to dial into Bible Study and Breakfast in the Word led by Rev. Dr. Evalina Huggins, whom Maxine considered "her" Pastor. Maxine also spent many hours reading suspense and mystery novels.
She fought a good fight and now she is at rest.
Maxine is survived by her husband, James Moore, Sons, Anthony R. Lee, Charles S. Lee, and bonus daughter, Jacquelyn Moore. Grandchildren, Namir R. Lee, Devyn Jones, Kayden Lee, Madison Jones (pre-deceased), James Majett. Sisters, Ilean Motley, Karan Moley (Luther B. Glenn II (pre-deceased), Darlene Williams, brother William D. Motley (Michelle). Nephews Luther B. Glenn III (Michelle R. Glenn) and W. Jeremy Motley and a host of other relatives and friends.
