McKinley Lee Dixon departed this life to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, February 26, 2019. He fought a long and brave battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Nikita Hairston, and his sister, Debra Dixon Brown.
He was born on January 18, 1944 to Leila Mortin-Dixon and Jessie William Dixon in Washington, DC, the eldest of two siblings. He was educated in the DC Public School system, a graduate of Eastern High School. McKinley, a member of New Canaan Baptist Church in Washington, DC, after giving his life to Christ, was baptized on June 2, 1996.
McKinley was a hard worker and provided for his family. He took pride in his job at Walter Reed Hospital, where he worked for 20 years, until his retirement in 2015. He loved and cherished his wife, children, grandchildren and church family. He always was willing to help others. An original member of the singing group, The Renaults in the 1960's, he continued his love of singing when he joined the church choir, where he praised the Lord through song and Sunday worship. McKinley loved the Lord. An avid Redskin fan, he looked forward to and watched every game.
He leaves to mourn, his wife, Carlene Dixon; children, LaShawn Wright, Londaa Dixon, Marcelles Williams, Renee Robinson, Dalmeta Nash, Cartina Haynesworth (Jeffery), Cartrice Haynesworth and Carletta Haynesworth; 25 grandchildren; a brother, Harold Dixon (Betty); and a host of other family members and friends. He will be truly missed.
