

Mike was educated in the District of Columbia Public Schools and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of the District of Columbia. His intellect and determination led him to a long and accomplished federal career with the U.S. Department of the Treasury. He began his professional journey with the Bureau of Government Financial Operations (BGFO) in the GAO Building in Washington, D.C. In the early 1980s, the BGFO became the Financial Management Service (FMS), later relocating to Hyattsville, Maryland. Mike retired in January 2011 as a Software Engineer within the Financial Management Service – Information Resources –Platform Engineering Division.
Throughout his career, Mike was recognized as a skilled and dependable professional, respected for his technical expertise and commitment to quality work. He valued logic and precision, approaching problems with practicality and clear reasoning.
Outside of work, Mike lived life on his own terms. He was independent, strong-spirited, and known for his stylish sense of dress. A man of faith and a proud Christian, he enjoyed jogging, traveling, and listening to music, and was a loyal fan of the Baltimore Ravens. He appreciated good food and was an excellent cook, taking pride in preparing great meals and enjoying them with others.
He is survived by two daughters, Monica (Joy) Campbell and Markita Reed; his lifelong friend and brother, James (Marion) E. Kitt; four grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Anna Reed, and two sisters, Yvonne Reed and Annette Holiday.
Mike will be remembered for his independence, intelligence, and straightforward nature. He took pride in his work, his health, and the life he built—living with thought, purpose, and a steady sense of self that inspired those who knew him.
A visitation will be held on October 25, 2025, at 11:00 am at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home, located at 3401 Bladensburg Rd, Brentwood, MD, 20722, USA. A Celebration of Life will follow at the same venue at 12:00 pm. The committal service will take place at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home & Cemetery at 1:00 pm.
