Patricia Ann Stripling passed away peacefully on May 5, 2019 at Carroll Manor Nursing Home in Washington, D.C., after fighting a battle with colon cancer.

Patricia “Pat” was born on September 26, 1953 in Reynolds, Georgia to Lillian Stripling Kemp and the late Henry Lee Stripling. She spent her early years growing up in Warner Robins, Georgia. As a teen of around 13 years, she and her siblings moved to Washington, D.C. after her mother remarried. There she received her formal education from Taft Junior High School and McKinley Technical High School where she graduated in 1971.

Immediately out of High School, she started her career with 1st American Bank as a teller. Later, through a Management Program, Patricia worked her way to Assistant Manager and spent over 30 years in banking. In 2005, she started working at MedSource Community Services as a Residential Assistant where she was responsible for the care of many individuals with disabilities. She always treated her residents with respect and love. The Pondmeadow home, where she was last assigned, was her home away from home for many years. Her ladies were family and adored her.

Pat was the oldest of nine siblings and always watched over her family. She never had children of her own but was a mother to many. Helping to raise almost all of the children in the family, Pat played a significant role in the young lives she touched and a big impact on who they became. With a bright smile and an astonishing warm heart, Pat would give you anything, even her last and wanted absolutely nothing in return. The joy she shared with people by leaving her famous sticky notes, giving warm hugs to each person before leaving a room and reminding all “To be safe out there” will be forever stamped in our hearts. She was truly one of God’s angels on earth.

Patricia is survived by her mother Lillian S. Kemp; siblings, Elizabeth Stripling, Joan Miles, John Stripling, Rosemary Stripling, Henry Lee Stripling, Stephanie Hancock, Ethel Wade; many nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.

My deepest condolences to the Stripling and Kemp family. I grew up between my house and your house right next door and have so many memories of Pat and your family. Rose and I were best friends and Pat called us "Mutt and Jeff" and would laugh whenever she saw us together because I am so tall and Rose is so much shorter. She was very much like my big sister to me as well. She always had a calm and soothing demeaner with a smile that always left me wondering what secrets did she know? She and my mom became very close and they kept track of the neighborhood activity and gossip. My mother would say, " let me call Pat and find out if she knows about...". We will miss her so much, she was such an ever present fixture in our neighborhood and in our lives. May the Lord strengthen and comfort the family during this time. With Love, Cheryl
