Paula Elizabeth Brown

Paula Elizabeth Brown was the sixth born child of Johnson Brown and Mary Dell Atkinson - Brown. She was born and raised in Washington, D.C. educated in the DC Public School system, and graduated from Cardozo Sr. High School. Committed to continuing her education, Paula attended UDC and graduated from the Delaware Valley School of Trades as a bricklayer. Her exceptional skill, dedication and passion lead her to become an instructor at the trade school.

Never one to shy away from hard work, Paula later began her career with the DC Fire Department on February 12, 1989 where she faithfully served 37 years. Throughout her three decades of service she carried out her responsibilities with the utmost professionalism, dedication and strong sense of duty. Her dedication to public service, strong work ethic, and willingness to help others earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and the many lives she touched throughout her career.

Paula was known not only for her remarkable career accomplishments but also for her strength, resilience, generous spirit, and love for her family and friends. She lived her life with purpose, leading by example and inspiring those around her through her kindness, determination, and selfless service. Her legacy is one of perseverance, excellence, and unwavering devotion to both her profession and the people she loved. Outside of her career, Paula found great joy in expressing her creativity and sharing her talents with everyone. She had a passion for sewing, decorating and baking sweet potato pies. Oftentimes she would participate in several activities and events at Emory Recreation Center, whether it was decorating for the holidays or going on trips with the seniors. She poured her heart into everything she did.

Above all, Paula treasured the time she spent with her family. Her kindness, resilience, generosity, and unwavering love left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She lived a life of purpose, service, and compassion, creating memories that will forever be cherished.

Paula was predeceased by her parents; sister, Mary-Ann; brothers, Johnson Brown Jr. “June”, Henry, and Anthony. She leaves to mourn; sister, Janice Brown; daughters, Tameka and Inga; son, Joshua; grandchildren, Melody, Eliceo, Marcel, Leilana, Liam, Ashley, Christie and Christaney; great-grandchildren, Izayah and Delonte; and a host of relatives and friends. Though she is no longer with us in body, her legacy of strength, love, creativity and selfless service will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, colleagues, and all whose lives she touched.

She will be honored with a visitation at Reid Temple A.M.E. Church, 11400 Glenn Dale Blvd, Glenn Dale, MD 20769, US, on July 31, 2026, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at the same location from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm. A committal will take place on July 31, 2026, at National Harmony Memorial Park, 7101 SHERIFF RD, HYATTSVILLE, MD 20785, US, from 3:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
